Virtual Reality Solitary Confinement Experience

The Guardian's 6x9: A virtual experience of solitary confinement is a powerful VR experience that places viewers inside a U.S. solitary confinement prison cell.

VR EXHIBIT AT A CONFERENCE
NRCAT has hosted virtual reality solitary confinement experiences for thousands of faith advocates and students at campuses and major religious conferences nationwide. Venues have included the United Church of Christ's General Synod, the Islamic Circle of North America's National Convention, the Epsicopal Church's General Convention , the National Youth Event hosted by the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Orlando, Ecumenical Advocacy Days, Kean University, Georgetown University, the Rothko Chapel in Houston, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinatti. NRCAT staffs these events and provides resources and action steps.

  1. Download a free mobile app for 6x9, available via the App Store and Google Play. This app allows users to fully experience a 9 minute virtual reality solitary cell on their own, with or without a Cardboard viewer. Note: You will need headphones for this experience.   2. To watch 6x9 without a smartphone, watch the 360° video on your computer.  You could have it available on a laptop for an event, especially to go along with a few VR viewers.

POSTERS AND OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT SOLITARY
NRCAT has prepared a set of 6 posters to accompany the set-up of a virtual reality solitary experience in your community.  They are availble in 8.5 by 11 format OR 18" by 24" size that can be printed and mounted on foamboard.
