Media Coverage of 2nd Senate Hearing on Solitary Confinement

Media Coverage of the February 25, 2014 Senate Hearing on Solitary Confinement:

"Religious Leaders and Solitary Confinement" Interviews by Nick Liao, video by Lauren Talley, edited by Anton Vidale, PBS Religion and Ethics Newsweekly, February 28, 2014. As the US Senate prepared for hearings on the use of solitary confinement in American prisons, a coalition of faith-based leaders gathered near Capitol Hill to denounce the practice, which some of them called a form of torture. PBS spoke with Laura Markle Downton of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture,  Rabbi Rachel Gartner of T’ruah: A Rabbinic Call for Human Rights, and Galen Carey of the National Association of Evangelicals. “God made us to be in contact with other human beings, and when we take that human contact away, it exacerbates whatever problems that may have been there before. So rather than rehabilitating people, it actually makes them worse,” said Carey.
