(Washington)  The Executive Director of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Rev. Richard L. Killmer, issued the following statement regarding Senate Republicans' decision to end their participation in a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee investigation into the use of torture:

“It is a sad day when the Senate Intelligence Committee is unable to carry out a bipartisan effort to learn the truth about our government's use of torture.  Americans care about the truth, and allowing partisanship to prevent us from learning the truth of what happened runs counter to the principles upon which our nation was founded.  This demonstrates the need for a nonpartisan Commission of Inquiry that could fully investigate the issue of torture in a nonpartisan manner - laying out the facts and making recommendations for preventing the use of torture in the future.”
