Faith Community Urges President Obama to Visit Solitary Confinement Unit During Upcoming Prison Tour

Today, the National Religious Campaign Against Torture sent a letter to President Obama urging him to visit a solitary confinement unit when he travels to El Reno Federal Prison on Thursday, July 16. With this visit, President Obama will become the first U.S. president to visit a federal prison. In his letter, Rev. Ron Stief, executive director of NRCAT emphasizes that the President will not see the reality of the prison system without witnessing the torture of solitary and encourages the President to address the issue of solitary confinement as an outspoken critic of torture.
