WEDNESDAY: New Jersey Pastor to Travel to DC to Read Torture Report Outside Department of Justice
Pastor says that if DOJ officials won't read the report, he'll read it to them

WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3, Pastor Seth Kaper-Dale of the Reformed Church of Highland Park, N.J., will travel to Washington, D.C., to read aloud the Torture Report, released publicly earlier this year by the Senate Intelligence Committee, to the Department of Justice. In response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the DOJ has said that it hasn't even opened, let alone read, its copy of the full Torture Report.

In advance of coming to Washington for the reading, Pastor Seth Kaper-Dale said, "As a pastor, I know that admitting the truth is the first step toward redemption. The Department of Justice played an important role in signing off on CIA torture, so when the DOJ admitted in court that it hadn't even opened, let alone read, the full Torture Report, I knew I had to help the department start on the path toward redemption. By reading the report outside the DOJ, I hope to open the hearts of at least a few DOJ employees."

The National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT) is a membership organization committed to ending U.S.-sponsored torture, and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Since its formation in January 2006, more than 300 religious organizations have joined NRCAT, including representatives from the Catholic, evangelical Christian, mainline Protestant, Unitarian Universalist, Quaker, Orthodox Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Baha'i, Buddhist, and Sikh communities. Members include national denominations and faith groups, regional organizations and local congregations.
