June 22 - National Call-In Day

Please join a national coalition of more than two dozen groups in a call-in day as part of activities marking Torture Awareness Month.

The focus of this effort will be new legislation introduced into the House of Representatives that would undo the indefinite detention provisions contained in the FY 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

On Friday, June 22, please call your Member of Congress and urge her/him to co-sponsor this important legislation.

Dial the House switchboard number (202-224-3121) and ask for your Representative or look up her/his number on the House website.

Sample Script:

My name is _____, and I am a constituent.  I live at _______.  I am calling to urge Rep. ______ to co-sponsor the “Civil Liberties Act of 2012,” H.R. 5936.  The bill would repeal the mandatory military detention requirement in last year’s National Defense Authorization Act and would ban indefinite detention and military commissions from the United States.  Thank you.
