NRCAT's Role in Calling for an Investigation of the Torture Experiments
June 7, 2010: Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) released a report providing evidence of unethical and illegal medical experiments on detainees. June 9, 2010: NRCAT joined PHR and other human rights organizations in asking the federal government to initiate a formal investigation into the alleged violations of U.S. laws protecting human research subjects. The organizations filed a formal complaint against the CIA with the federal Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP). June and July 2010: Twenty national and several regional religious organizations joined NRCAT in making a complaint to OHRP. View a list of the organizations. July 1, 2010: The Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP) in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declined to investigate the original complaint filed by PHR, NRCAT, twenty religious organizations and various human rights organizations.
