1. Jan 22 will mark the 3rd anniversary of President Obama’s executive order calling for the closure of the Guantanamo prison.  NRCAT is joining with other groups in promoting a petition to the President, urging him to keep that promise. 

2. With all the attention on Guantanamo this week, we expect that most local papers also printed stories, providing an excellent opportunity for you to submit a letter-to-the-editor and demonstrate local support for the call to shut down the prison.

Activities marking the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Guantanamo Bay prison provided a powerful call upon our government to live up to its values by closing this symbol of torture and ending the use of indefinite detention.  More than 1000 people, including many people of faith, attended events in Washington, DC alone on January 11. NRCAT supporters and partner groups organized or participated in local events in a variety of cities, including Seattle, Los Angeles, Ann Arbor, San Francisco, and Chicago.
